Fresh Figs with Spiced Honey and Goat Cheese

This fruit-and-cheese combination is so delicious, yet only takes a few minutes to assemble. Serve as an appetizer or a dessert. Skill Level: Intermediate

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cardamom, ground
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 figs
  • 3 ounces goat cheese (chevre)


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 ┬░F.
  2. Microwave the honey in a small microwavable bowl on high for 30 seconds, or until warmed.
  3. Stir in the lemon peel, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. Set aside.
  4. Cut a small slice off the bottom of each fig so that it stands upright. Quarter each fig, cutting just halfway down the fig.
  5. Press a small chunk of cheese into the center of each fig.
  6. Place the figs on a small foil-lined baking pan.
  7. Bake 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  8. Place a fig on each serving plate.
  9. Drizzle with the spiced honey, and serve immediately.
