  • 15 ounces canned black beans, undrained
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red (cayenne) pepper
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes


  1. Drain the beans, reserving 2 tablespoons of the liquid, then rinse.
  2. Add the beans, reserved liquid, chili powder, cumin, garlic salt, oregano and red pepper to a blender or food processor, then cover.
  3. Process until beans are coarsely chopped.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a small saucepan.
  5. Cook on medium-low heat 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the tomatoes, then cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.


Serve with baked or low fat tortilla chips or cut-up fresh vegetables.
