  • 3 cups chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 cups almonds, roughly chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup red wine (sweet wine)


  1. In a large bowl, mix the chopped dates and chopped nuts together.
  2. Add the dried spices and grate the apples with a box grater into the bowl.
  3. Add the wine slowly, putting in only as much as you need to bind the fruit and nut mixture. You don't want any liquid remaining in the bowl.
  4. Cover and store at room temperature until ready to serve.
