  • 1 wide mouth quart mason jar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


  1. Layer the ingredients in a wide-mouthed 1 quart jar in the following order: rolled oats, brown sugar, white sugar, pecans, chocolate chips, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer so that everything will fit in the jar.
  2. Decorate the jar with a ribbon, and include a card with the following instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 ┬░F. Grease cookie sheets.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 egg  and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in the entire contents of the jar. You may need to use your hands to finish mixing.
  3. Shape into walnut-size balls. Place the balls 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
  4. Bake for about 11 minutes in the preheated oven.
  5. Transfer from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.
