Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 Tablespoons water, for the beef
  • 2 Tablespoons corn starch, for the beef
  • 1 pound boneless sirloin steak, sliced thin
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable or canola oil, divided in half
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 yellow onion, cut into wedges
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup water, for the sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon corn starch, for the sauce

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, combine garlic powder with the water and corn starch for the beef until smooth. Add beef and toss.
  2. In a large skillet or wok over medium high heat, stir-fry beef in 1/2 the oil until beef reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm.
  3. Stir-fry broccoli and onion in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in a bowl combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and the water and cornstarch for the sauce until smooth.
  5. Add beef and sauce to the pan. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
